Lakeview Village Is Official Site for Covid Vaccine Through 2023
Residents and staff of Lakeview Village continue to be the first in line to receive the latest Covid 19 vaccines on the market. An Increase the Reach grant, from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment working with Wichita State University, enables Lakeview Village the ability to provide both Moderna and Pfizer vaccines to help reach as many seniors, Healthcare and First Responders in the area, including the public.
The grant funding helps Lakeview Village provide funds for a nurse and support staff to manage, arrange, and conduct as many vaccine clinics as possible on and off our campus. These funds help with paying for supplies, advertisement, and the time for staff to make the clinics happen. The grant provides funding through 2023.
Lakeview Village is approved to administer the first and second primary doses to those who haven’t been vaccinated at all, plus, administer the latest booster to be approved which is called the Bivalent. Both Moderna and Pfizer manufacture this booster to cover the latest variant.
Since early September, Lakeview Village healthcare personnel have administered over a thousand Bivalent vaccines internally and externally. In one day, they administered 400 vaccines of the booster to those who signed up.
“Our mission at Lakeview is to try to slow down the Covid variant among the senior population,” stated Pam Hermon, Lakeview Village Chief Operating Officer. “We serve a typically high-risk community, and we want to actively do all we can to take care of that population whether they live at Lakeview Village or outside of our community. Outreach is important to us, too.”
According to Hermon, Lakeview works closely with the Johnson County Health Department for updates on the most relevant Covid 19 information and protocol. We asked director, Dr. Sanmi Areola, to answer a few common questions regarding the vaccine. Here are his answers.
Who should be getting the Bivalent vaccine?
CDC recommends everyone stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, including all primary series doses and boosters as recommended for their age group. People ages 12 years and older who received a primary series, including those who received a monovalent booster dose(s), are recommended to receive 1 bivalent booster dose.
How much time between boosters/vaccines?
The bivalent booster dose is administered at least 2 months after the last monovalent booster dose. Everyone ages 12 and older who completed a primary series is recommended to receive 1 bivalent booster dose regardless of previous booster dose history. For people who previously received 1 or more monovalent booster doses, the bivalent booster dose should be administered at least 2 months after the last monovalent booster dose.
If I’ve had Covid in recent months, do I still need the vaccine?
Vaccination is recommended regardless of history of prior symptomatic or asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection, including to people with prolonged post-COVID-19 symptoms and people who experienced SARS-CoV-2 infection (symptomatic or asymptomatic) after vaccination. People who recently had SARS-CoV-2 infection may consider delaying their primary or booster COVID-19 vaccine dose by 3 months from symptom onset or positive test (if infection was asymptomatic). Getting a COVID-19 vaccine after you recover from COVID-19 infection provides added protection against COVID-19.
Are there any newer variants on the horizon?
Viruses constantly change through mutation and sometimes these mutations result in a new variant of the virus. Some variations allow the virus to spread more easily or make it resistant to treatments or vaccines. Numerous variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 are being tracked in the United States and globally during this pandemic. CDC is working with public health officials to monitor the spread of all variants and provide an estimate of how common they are in the nation and at the regional level. This data can change over time as more information is available.
